Pathways to Freedom 2006

The Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development Proudly presents its 17th annual flagship program, Pathways to Freedom 2006. In collaboration with the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Celebration of Mrs. Parks’ historic arrest and the Montgomery Bus Boycott

"Retracing the life and works of Rosa Parks"
(Sunday July 9th- Saturday August 5th, 2006)

This unique educational "Freedom Ride" encourages youth to reach their highest potential through teaching life skills and promoting self-exploration. Under the annual theme " Where have we been, Where are we going?" students develop important life principles for which Mrs. Parks was renowned:

  • Dignity
  • Integrity
  • Strength of Character
  • Sound Judgment
  • "Quiet Strength"

Specially selected youth between the ages of 11-17 will perform intensive historical research on Mrs. Parks’ life and her integral role in advancing peace, justice, and human rights in the United States of America and throughout the world. There will also be many opportunities to interact with friends and contemporaries of Mrs. Parks.

If you are a highly motivated student between the ages of 11-17 and you are interested in volunteering your time to better understand and advance the legacy of Rosa Parks, please send us an email to pathways@rosaparks.org.
